Uprooted — Uncommon Common Art, 2017

outdoor installation, paper sculptures, tree stump

Parks Canada Grand Pré National Historic Site, King's County, Nova Scotia

Six 2" paper sculptures highlight aspects of Acadian culture through the representation of architectural structures. Family, agriculture and religion are symbolized by houses, barns and a church. The sculptures are displayed on an uprooted tree stump that references the Expulsion of the Acadians and how they were uprooted from their families and land. This tree stump was found near the Deportation Cross at Horton Landing, the memorial site which marks the Embarkation of the Acadians in 1755.
