Recycled Shadows was a Spotlight Project for Halifax's public art festival Nocturne: Art at Night, generously sponsored by STEPS Public Art, built and displayed on the outdoor patio of Lake City Cider in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
This work was a large, site-specific, abstract installation created with recycled cardboard, collected hardware and lights. My intention for this piece was for it to be a gentle place of curiosity, discovery, play and rest.
My cardboard installations are built on-site with collected materials. The individual sculptural components are spontaneously determined from the cardboard I find and their placement is decided in the moment, one piece at a time.
These installations reflect a new relationship with my creative process; made from a place of curiosity and kind ambiguity, they embody a leap of faith towards the joy of creating, valuing process over product, and embrace the spontaneous and the unknown. Visitors were invited to explore the installation with the same spirit.
